Partnership For Transparency Project

Partnership for transparency project.

Uganda Law Society is receiving funding from  Partnership for Transparency Fund for a Project Enhancing the Capacity of Lawyers and the Public in Uganda to promote accountability. It is a sixteen (1st September 2008- 31st December 2009) month initiative aimed at empowering the lawyers, Civil Society Organizations (CSO), Members of Parliament, public servants and all communities to embrace accountability and fight corruption in Uganda.

The key objectives of the Project include:-

1.    To identify gaps in current anti-corruption laws and regulations and suggest solutions,

2.    Identify ways in which the legal profession can promote good governance,

3.    Monitor the proceedings of the new Anti-corruption Court and organize a forum of legal experts and a standing legal expert committee to advise on how the legal profession can better fight corruption.

The key outputs of the project include:-

1    Review of the Anti – Corruption laws and Regulations

2    Policy advocacy for Legal Reforms

3    Increased involvement and awareness of the legal fraternity and the general public on anti-corruption issues and their stake in the anti-corruption fight.

4    Documentation on analysis and legal developments in the anti-corruption arena

5    Constitution of a legal experts committee

6    Increased media coverage and reporting on the Corruption Court selected cases.
